Who will represent Ukraine at Eurovision song contest? This question for CIS Eurovision fans is not less interesting than who will represent Russia. Different tabloids already publish contradicting rumours declaring that this or that participant has already been selected. Official sources at NTU are denying rumours pointing out that submission period ends on 10th of February and decision will be taken only after that date.
"Decision will be based on unity of components: stage image of the performer, quality of music material, and unique features of the performer", declared Olyona Mozgovaya, head of Entertainment broadcast of NTU.
Many sources claim that already selected participant is Verka Serduchka. Recently NTU has informed that no application from the singer or his management has yet been received, but may be received by the deadline, while management of singer rejects to give any comment at present time. Comedy act (which can be mistakenly characterized as drag act) is not generally considered the best choice by Ukrainian public, but probably can bring to Ukraine higher position at the contest. Andrey Danilko was applying to the Eurovision 2005 but was disqualified by NTU due to unrespect to promotional video shooting schedules. He was also disqualified from Russian selection same year for failing to submit song with lyrics in time. Last year on cards was duet of Verka with Renya Paczkowska for Eurovision from Poland. The duet was cancelled as Renya better known as Michal Wisniewski decided to go to Eurovision with his band Ich Troje.
Other sources claim that Ukraine will be represented by young ex-participant of Russian Stars Factory 6 Prokhor Shalyapin, who is promoted by National Music Corporation, and is good friend of Dmitry Koldun. Today Russian papers went even further, claiming that Verka and Prokhor will perform a duet at Eurovision 2007.
Other possible candidate is Vitaliy Kozlovski, winner of first edition of Ukrainian talent show "Shans", and participant of New Wave contest. Management of young singer have already confirmed that they are entering song in national preselection.
Singer Evgenia Vlasova has also expressed her interest in participation. She was already invited in previous years, but rejected proposal, first time being pregnant and second time because of the format of the show "You're A Star".
Singer GODO and his producer were for a long time expressing interest in competition. Recently they held a press-conference announcing that they have entered song in competition and demanded more transparance from the organizers of national selection, such as announcing the names of singers who have already submitted their entries. Classically trained singer has won many international awards and was performing in many European countries.
Last, but not least, is Irina Yarina, who recently has taken part in Belarus national selection. Probably the most awarded internationally Ukrainian singer also was expressing interest in Ukrainian national selection.
NTU is expecting to announce winning combination shortly after submission deadline.
